Reviews

This course is designed to help you uncover the stories of Black veterans in your family history using military records. We will explore how these documents provide unique insights into your ancestors' lives, from enlistment and service details to pension applications and personal letters. Special attention will be given to searching for records under various historical classifications, including "Negro," "Colored," "Mulatto," and others, which often present unique challenges when researching Black genealogy.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the tools and knowledge to effectively search, interpret, and utilize military records to honor the contributions of Black Americans who served, and to bring their stories to life within your family tree. Whether your ancestors served in the Civil War, World Wars, or later conflicts, this course will guide you in piecing together their journeys and service.
